Hi Everyone, we did not do a May what is it due to moving the websites and establishing our own web hosting package.

However here is a new one for June. What it is is not so difficult to figure out, but for this what is it, we are more interested in the yellow piece of leather and what purpose it serves.

Dan

Can you show a rotated view?

Is that stick attached to both sides of the gourd?

Hi Brian,

That is the only view I was given for that 'what it is', however I believe the stick does go all the way through.

Wow. It's a slow month the gourd reserve!

OK. June is almost over, so I'll take a shot.

It's a basket. I have no idea what the leather patches are for.

Am I close?

Hi, I'm new to this site...but I'll jump in.  Is it a sun dial?  The leather piece could be the reference point that can be moved for different seasons...

Hi All,

OK, the primary focus of this what is it was the leather patch on the side.  the gourd is actually a basket, but with time all things weaken, and gourds sometimes crack. The leather patch was exactly that, a patch to mend a crack in the gourd.

This will probably be the last what is it for a while, as we are about out of material for this, but we have done this for over a year now and it has been fun.

Anyone have any new and interesting ideas to do?

Well Dan,
How about a "What's it for" thing?  If you did specialty or really old tools, it could help some of us newbies see the variety of implements used in gourding.
